Course Description

This entry-level assault defense course is designed for individuals with no prior martial arts experience. The course focuses on enhancing situational awareness and understanding its impact on both you and potential assailants. We explore alternative de-escalation techniques to either confront or diffuse a situation before it becomes physical. If a situation does escalate, the course teaches efficient ways to disengage from the threat, covering low-threat scenarios like simple hand grabs. Many techniques require minimal physical force. Safety measures and equipment will be provided.

Charles Joe Swift

Instructor Biography

Joe Swift has been immersed in traditional Okinawan/Japanese martial arts since 1985 and has resided in Japan since 1994. He founded his own martial arts school in Tokyo in 2000, specializing in Okinawan Karate and Ryukyu Kobudo (traditional Okinawan weapons). Swift holds a Nanadan (7th-degree black belt) under the mentorship of Grandmaster Uematsu Yoshiyuki from Mushinkan Dojo. Additionally, he serves as a standing director of the All Japan Ryukyu Kobudo Federation and is a senior advisor to the International Ryukyu Karate Research Society.
