Course Description

This course is to provide an understanding of color and how it affects the interior environments and influences mood. It will teach students about the importance of all colors and how they can be used to enhance the function of a work or living space. Students will to combine texture and color to create interest as they experiment with new color palettes and combinations from simple monochromatic to vibrant color schemes.

Learning Objectives

1. To be able to produce and apply all colors consciously.
2. To understand and work with the properties of color.
3. To build a structure in terminology, contrasts and schemes.
4. To develop the personal design practice.

Bavo Willems

Instructor Biography

Bavo Willems (Belgium, b. 1980) has been an instructor of Interior Design at the Temple University, Continuing Education Program in Tokyo for the past 7 years. Besides this, he works internationally on architectural, art, interior and renovation projects. He has participated in exhibitions showing furniture design and installation art. In collaboration with 'Art Basics for Children', he constructed various educational studios for, among others, the famous Magritte Museum in Brussels and the Chinese Pavilion in Brussels, a work by French 'Belle-Epoque' architect Alexandre Marcel. Until 2008 he studied Architecture at the Saint-Lucas School of Architecture, Belgium, after obtaining his degree in Interior Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Belgium. He runs a creative studio in Yokosuka, Kanagawa.
