Course Description

Cross-Cultural Communication is a field of study that focuses on how people from different cultural backgrounds strive to communicate effectively. It is sometimes challenging to get our message across to others, and when we interact with people from different backgrounds, it can be even more challenging. As we move toward a more globalized world, the need to communicate well with people from differing cultures has never been more important. This discussion based course will explore and discuss cultural dimensions, and other topics related to different aspects of cross-cultural communication. Students will gain a better understanding of their own culture, enhance their discussion skills, and learn how to improve their cross-cultural communication skills when speaking to someone who comes from a different cultural background. This course is aimed at upper-intermediate to advanced students.

Instructor Biography

Betty is from Brisbane. She has studied and worked in six countries and traveled to over 25 countries. She has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Modern Asian Studies and has several years experience working in the hospitality industry. She came to Tokyo soon after completing her Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She has taught English for over twenty years - In Brisbane, Taipei, London and Tokyo.
Betty is a supportive teacher who strives to help students feel comfortable. The experience and enthusiasm she brings to the classroom makes it the perfect environment for students to broaden their skills and knowledge.
