Course Description

Domestic tourism in Japan has received remarkable attention since Tokyo was selected to be the host city for Olympic Games 2020. This workshop is designed to provide a variety of skills and knowledge on translation for tourism purposes. At the beginning of the workshop, participants will learn about different types of translation tasks critical to the tourism industry. We will also work collaboratively in groups of 2 or 3 to translate several types of text including hotel websites, travel advertisement and leaflets (mainly English into Japanese). Your translation works will be shared in the classroom, and we will discuss and analyze them from a variety of perspectives. Through these discussions, you will be able to not only learn practical translation skills, but also gain "text analysis" skills, which can be applied to your daily business/work.
