Course Description

This one-day workshop provides participants with an understanding of HR development models and knowledge of how to apply Organizational Development (OD) methods to HR strategic planning and executions. Essential functions of HR, such as recruiting, developing and retaining talent and leaders, are critical to any organization. The rapid pace of change in today's economy has been amplified by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on work systems. HR departments must become more strategic; shifting from human resource management to human resource development and further to organizational development. To make meaningful contributions to organizational mission and vision, HR leaders need to go beyond policies and programs, and become strategic thinkers, systematic organizational designers, and true business partners. This workshop features an active learning format (case studies and hands-on practice), as well as an overview of strategic HR and OD practice at leading global companies. The instructors are seasoned practitioners who have a track record of delivering strategic HR and OD programs to improve organizational effectiveness both in Japan and other countries. The target audience are those who have a strong need to strengthen organizational culture and performance in sustainable ways.

Yoshiharu Matsui

Instructor Biography

Yoshiharu is president of HPO Creation Inc., a management consulting company specializing in leadership and organizational development. He focuses his current practice in the areas of organizational change, leadership development, executive coaching, and marketing and sales development.

Earlier in his career, Yoshiharu spent 12 years in marketing and 12 years in human recourses and organizational development working first as Associate Marketing Manager for Richard Vicks, Japan, moved on to Marketing Manager at P&G along with acquisition, and later moved to HR/OD performing various management positions, including corporate training manager, Taiwan HR manager, Regional OD and talent development director. Yoshiharu holds a BA in Inter-cultural communication from Kita-Kyushu University and an MBA from Northwest Missouri State University. He is currently in the Ed Doctoral program in Organization Change at Pepperdine University.
